Corporate Environmental Policy

Northern Bahamas Utilities (NBU) is fully committed to meetings its customer's energy needs in a manner consistent with a clean environment. NBU believe it is both good business practice and our duty to protect the natural resources of the communities we serve. In keeping with this belief, it is our policy to conduct our business in an environmentally responsible manner that protects the public, our employees, and the earth we all share. In addition to complying with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, we commit to:
  • 1. Make environmental concerns an integral part of our planning and decision making process and commit sufficient resources to implement effective and sustainable environmental programs.
  • 2. Promote and practice sound environmental stewardship of all company-owned facilities and all natural resources under our management.
  • 3. Educate employees to be accountable for environmental stewardship and encourage them to seek innovative ways to improve the environmental aspects of our operations.
  • 4. Avoid, minimize and mitigate any adverse environmental impacts caused by our operations where possible.
  • 5. Maintain open channels of communications with our customers, employees, government agencies, public officials, the media and the public to meet their information needs in regards to energy, environmental, and sustainability issues.
  • 6. Participate with government agencies and others in framing responsible laws, regulations and standards affecting the community, the workplace, and the environment.
  • 7. Continually improve our environmental programs.
  • 8. Promote the efficient use of energy and natural resources through cost-effective conversation; the use of renewable and alternative energy, and the implementation of energy management programs.
  • 9. Ensure the proper handling and disposal of all waste, and minimize their creation while pursuing opportunities to prevent pollution and recycle and reuse waste materials.
  • 10.Support research and development of programs and technologies aimed at minimizing the environmental impacts of our operations.
