Northern Bahamas Utilities (NBU) Holdings Company Limited was incorporated in 2006 under the Commonwealth of the Bahamas Companies Act, 1992, as a holding company for its shareholders The principal shareholders are four former senior managers and engineers of Grand Bahama Power Company Limited (GBPC). Future shareholders are expected to be retired employees of GBPC and Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) and other citizens and residents of the Bahamas Business of NBU NBU was initially formed to pursue the purchase of Mirant International Investments Inc. (MIII) interest in GBPC. In addition, the company intends to pursue other purchases of other companies (mainly utilities) in the region (firstly focusing in the Bahamas). The Company plans to operate the assets purchased profitably, and add value to the communities in which the assets exist.
